Easter - A Hopeful Time
Easter is a time of celebration. The pain that Jesus experienced on the cross brings us to living in hope and the joy in our relationship with Jesus. Easter is a time when we think of how our sins are forgiven and we are filled with peace and renewed in lives.
We celebrate this feeling of being renewed in spiritual ways and we celebrate by watching how the Earth too renews itself at this time: animals are born and flowers and trees begin to bloom.
We praise God and the Father of Lord Jesus for all that is renewed during Easter. Have a blessed Easter!
Victoria Northcott, Principal
and Staff of Our Lady of Lourdes

On Family Day, February 18, 2013, many of Our Lady of Lourdes' families will be taking part in activities. Some of us will be outside skating, playing hockey, sliding or walking. Others may be playing board games, attending art activities or doing something creative together. Many of us will share a family meal together or visit with family members we do not get to see every day. Whatever it is that you are doing on this day, on behalf or the staff at Our Lady of Lourdes we wish you a joy- filled weekend. Sincerely, Victoria Northcott
Happy New Year!
Our Lady of Lourdes would like to wish everyone a Happy New Year! We hope that 2013 is filled with many blessings for everyone in our Catholic School community.
Merry Christmas!

As you celebrate the birth of Christ this season
may your holiday be filled with the love, joy and peace of Christ. We look forward to working with you in 2014.
Seeing Into the Future
Ten year old Makayla Conn from Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School in Elmvale is an inspiration. She has Retinitis Pigmentosa which is a degenerative eye condition causing her to lose her vision. Our staff is helping her to prepare for her new journey in life in many ways, including teaching her how to use Braille.
Last year, she took on the tremendous challenge of writing her very own story using Braille. She entered her story in the CNIB Braille Writing Contest and won in the Grades 4 to 6 category. On Friday, October 26th, she was presented with her award at a conference in Toronto.
Her story, Chris Cross is about a young boy named Chris, whose changes to his vision lead him to the ophthalmologist. Much to Chris' chagrin, the ophthalmologist prescribes glasses and Chris then goes through an emotional process of learning to live with his vision challenges.
Goal - Eco School Certification

Well we are off to a good start to maintaining our dedication to being a certified Eco School. We continue to develop ecological literacy and environmental practices. We are working to create responsible citizens and reduce our footprint.
Shailah, our Gr. 8 lead talked about our school environmental practices at an October assembly. She shared how we as a team can conserve energy and minimize the waste in our school. She also encouraged all students to review our school practices and take a lead in their own classes to follow our recycling program. This year we aim to achieve certification as an Eco school and continue the fantastic work we have done at Our Lady of Lourdes. Let's all do our part!
Me To We Day
On Friday September 28, 2012 a group of thirteen students from Our Lady of Lourdes went to Me to We in Toronto. We learned about making a change in the world. We learned that the place to start is with yourself.
We learned we can be the change.
We saw some amazing artists and heard some awesome speakers. What we learned about were some ways to raise money for other children and people who do not have what we have in the world, like good water supplies or medical supplies. So to all of our community let's help to make a change in our world. It all starts with you.
We will be starting a penny campaign soon.
Thank you for any pennies you send to the school. This is the beginning of being the change for Our Lady of Lourdes students and families.
Peace Officers' National Memorial Day
In observance of Police and Peace Officers' National Memorial Day, Sunday September 30th, the flag at Our Lady of Lourdes will be flown at half-mast from sunrise to sunset. As our building is closed on the weekend we will be lowering our flag on Friday and it will remain at half-mast until school resumes on Monday.
Welcome Back !
Welcome back to the start of a great year! This year our theme is living our faith - head, heart and hands. Our Board trustees also embraced this theme. Faith is one of our virtues and one that will be highlighted throughout the year. We are always trying to help our students articulate the content of their faith. Together with all members of the Our Lady of Lourdes School community we are always trying to focus on being literate in the area of our faith. Happy are those who hear the word of God and live it - with our head, our hearts and our hands. In our school calendar you will notice that our September theme is Friendship. We look forward to renewing our friendship soon.
